  • Schroth Method is an evidenced- based Physical Therapy treatment model for the management of scoliosis.

    The International Society on Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) organization recommends starting Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises (PSSE) when a curve measures at 10 degrees Cobb Angle. SOSORT officially recognizes the Schroth Method as a standard, evidence-based approach to the management of scoliosis and kyphosis.

    The Schroth Method works best for individuals with idiopathic scoliosis who will be dedicated to daily exercises. It is ideal for teens and children for managing and stabilizing progressive curves while the spine is still growing. The Schroth Method works well for adults with scoliosis too but at Physio-Align we specialize with the teen/pediatric population.

  • While the Schroth Method will not straighten a curved spine, it will focus on creating a more balanced spine by developing strong postural muscles with the primary goal of preventing the curve from worsening. In some cases, studies have shown it can actively reduce the degrees of the curve but this is not guaranteed as the cause of scoliosis itself is unknown.

  • No. SOSORT highly recommends Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises in conjunction with bracing if the curve Cobb angle is above 20 degrees and the risk of curve progression is high to prevent the curve from rapidly worsening.

    However, at Physio-Align we believe in working closely with your medical team to provide the best possible care and outcome. A referral is required prior to your scheduling your child’s evaluation.
